  THE OKLAHOMAN (Oklahoma City, OK) 3/17/1928 POWDER FLASH KILLS STUDENT (Saturday) University Man Is Dead As Result of Accident Friday Afternoon Norman, March 16 – Warren Haskell, student in the engineering school of the state university, died Friday night of injuries sustained Friday afternoon when a bottle of flashlight powder with which he was experimenting exploded. Robert Church of Stroud, another engineering student, who was assisting Haskell in a demonstration, was severely burned about the face. He was also cut by flying glass but his condition is not dangerous. The students were exhibiting what they termed a "death ray" and were seeking to show how powder could be ignited by a long electric spark. While pouring the powder from a glass bottle into a pan, Haskell in some manner allowed the explosive to flash. The bottle exploded and fragments of glass were driven into his body. Haskell is a nephew of Lawrence Haskell, baseball coach at the university.
