Lois E. Smith, 89, of Columbia City, passed away at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016 at Renaissance Village of Fort Wayne. Born Oct. 9, 1926 in Coesse, she was the daughter of Paul Walker and Margaret (Miller) Walker.
She graduated from Coesse High School with the Class of 1944. While roller skating at a rink, she met the man of her dreams and she married Albert L. Smith Dec. 20, 1945. She was a homemaker, helped her husband with his plumbing and antique business, A & L Smith Plumbing, Heating and Antiques and had worked at the Whitley County Courthouse. Lois was an avid antique collector and visited many auctions and garage sales in the community. She attended First Church of God, Columbia City.
Survivors include her son, Thomas A. Smith, of South Whitley; daughter-in-law, Suzie Smith, of Columbia City; sisters, Jean Mossburg and Phyllis Bear, both of Columbia City; sister-in-law, Betty Walker, of Columbia City; grandchildren, Amy (Trini) Broadnax, Angela Smith, Michelle Smith, Jason (Kristi) Smith and Matthew Smith; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Richard and Donald Smith; husband; brother, Jerry Walker; and brothers-in-law, Edwin Bear and Paul Mossburg.
