Robert Wheeler Davidson

Robert Wheeler Davidson, 87, of Jamesville, died Wednesday at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born in Buffalo, NY, and spent his childhood in Evansville, IN.
He served as a U.S. Army captain, deployed with forces in Germany and Austria during the last 18 months of WWII. Afterward, he earned a B.S. in forestry from the University of Montana. Bob came to the Syracuse area with his wife, Lee, in 1954 to earn a Ph.D. in wood physics at SUNY-ESF and remained there as a professor and faculty member in the Wood Products Engineering Department until his retirement. Through his years at ESF, he was active in teaching and curriculum development, and was also actively engaged in research, holding one wood technology patent and participating in the research for several others. He was an avid sailor and craftsman in wood.
He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Heather Cameron of Kirkville, NY, and many nieces and nephews.
