  Eureka Times-Standard October 10, 2006 Richard Warren Crane passed away peacefully on September 17, 2006, shortly after having a stroke. He is survived by his wife of 60 years; Irene; their 5 sons - Dave, Tom, Bob, Mike, and Steve; their spouses - Janet, Debbie, Sue, and Cathy; step-son John Paul; 4 grandchildren - Lindsy, Ryan, Stacy, and Abbey; and 3 great-grandsons - Nathan, Sirin, and Auden (who arrived just 2 days after his death). Warren was born in Terre Haute, IN, on May 19, 1921 to Elsie and Stephen Crane. They and their 5 children moved to San Francisco in 1930. Warren enjoyed summers in Ferndale where he spent most of his time fishing and swimming on the Eel River. After he completed school at Galileo High School, World War II took him to Attu in the Aleutian Islands. Upon returning he met Irene, and within 3 months they wed. They raised their family in the San Francisco Bay Area where he worked as a Real Estate Appraiser for 30 years. In 1979 they moved to Humboldt County. Warren will be remembered for his devotion to his wife and family, love of fishing, cribbage, gardening, harmonica playing, for his sense of humor, activity in the Kiwanis, and his joy in a good wood fire. He loved singing in the Ferndale Community Choir and with The Chameleons. He was a master crossword puzzler and often stumped even the most learned persons with his "arbitrary vocabulary". Thanks for being a great Dad and Husband. You will also be missed by your many friends.
