Captain H. Keith Scott, USN(retired), age 86, died Wednesday, May 23, 2012. He was born July 8, 1925 in Des Moines, Iowa.
After graduating from high school he enlisted in the Naval Aviation Cadet (V— 5) program and started flight training. He received his commission and wings as a Marine Aviator and flew F4-U Corsairs until released from active duty at the end of World War II. While attending Iowa State University he joined the Iowa Air National Guard. Upon graduation he accepted a regular commission in the U.S. Navy. He served 22 years in the Navy Supply Corps, rising to the rank of Captain. During that period he earned Masters Degrees from Stanford and George Washington Universities. After retiring from the Navy he accepted a position with the State of Michigan and subsequently was appointed Deputy Director, Michigan Department of Transportation. He served 12 years in that position, retiring on his 60th birthday and moving to Gulf Breeze, FL.
Captain Scott is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joanne; daughters, Sarah Borns (Michael) and Anne Verhage Gault (Don); grandsons, Benjamin Borns (Andrea) and Lt. Scott Verhage, USCG; and granddaughter Rebecca Borns, and an adopted sister, Phyllis Kester.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Col. Robert R. Scott, USAF.
