FRANZ, PAUL BRADFORD, 69, a loving husband, dedicated father, son and grandfather, died in Miami, FL on Memorial Day, May 30, 2005. He was born in New York City, in 1936, the only child of Silas and Doris Franz.
Raised in Westchester, NY, he graduated from Brown University in 1957 with a degree in Philosophy. Thereafter, he began active service as a fighter pilot in the United States Air Force. A Vietnam veteran, he flew 100 missions over North Vietnam in the F-105 Thunderchief. After 28 years of military service, including 19 years in the Air National Guard, he retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
After returning from Vietnam, he was hired as a pilot for Pan American World Airlines in 1966. He ended his airline career 32 years later as a 767 Captain for United Airlines.
Paul was much loved by his family and many friends for his warmth, patience, compassion, and frequent use of bad puns. He lived with a passion and zeal for life, and when he was diagnosed with leukemia in 1992, he fought the disease with that same zeal and passion. he set his mind to winning the battle and largely succeeded. He lived a good life, flew one last flight and died surrounded by his family.
He is survived by Lane Franz, his beloved wife of 24 years. Children, Brian Franz, Kimberly Franz, Payton Boswell, Ayres Boswell and Lilise Kurc. His mother, Doris Franz.
