Cecil Clay Franklin, 93, of Olney, died at 7:54 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.
Mr. Franklin was born on March 23, 1916, in Dundas, the son of Carl and Lillian (Haskell) Franklin. He married Helen Lee Berry on March 19, 1944. She survives.
He was a farmer and also worked until retirement at Richland County Highway Department. He was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church.
Mr. Franklin is survived by his wife, Helen Franklin, of Olney; daughter, Carolyn Ponton and her husband, Tom, of Ellettsville, Ind.; daughter, Joyce Gray and her husband, Dave, of Norris City; daughter, Jane Weber and her husband, Charlie, of Jenks, Okla.; daughter, Jill Forsyth and her husband, Monte, of Edmond, Okla.; daughter, Melanie Kent and her husband, Rich, of Flat Rock; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Cleo Bunton and her husband, Ken, of Peoria; brother, Bernard Franklin and his wife, Geri, of Olney; brother-in-law, Bob Berry, of Olney; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Brian Thomas Ponton; four sisters, Ruth Burgener, Ilma Sprague, Pauline Bateman and Mayme Franklin; two brothers, Lawrence Franklin and John William Franklin.
