Mrs. Elizabeth "Betsy" Watts Haskell, 78, died Monday, February 27, 2017 at Parkwood Healthcare Community in Bedford, TX. She was born in Newport News, VA, March, 18, 1938. She was the middle daughter of the late George Allen Watts and Etta Howerton Clements.
Betsy received her Bachelor's degree from University of Mary Washington and Master of Arts Degree in Special Education from University of North Carolina Charlotte. While attending Virginia Commonwealth University, she met Charles Peeples Haskell, her husband of 40 years. They married June 22, 1963 and moved to Wadesboro, NC were she spent most of her life.
Betsy worked for 10 years at the Richmond County Department of Social Services. She then switched her career focus to Education. She worked as a Special Education Teacher at J R Faison School in Wadesboro and Peachland-Polkton Elementary School in Anson County and continued to volunteer at the elementary for several years after her retirement. While living in Wadesboro, Betsy was an active member of The First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Anson Writer's Club and enjoyed painting, reading and exercise. She then moved Texas to be closer to her family.
Her husband, Charles P. Haskell died April 16, 2003 in Wadesboro. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Lesa Haskell of Keller, Texas; her grandson, Charles Reese Haskell of Denton, Texas; her sisters: Judith Andrews (Dan Botticello) of Arlington, VA and Cathy Funk of Windsor, VA.
