Augusta - Carlton Verdell Haskell, 83, of the Church Hill Road, died Tuesday evening at the Augusta Convalescent Center. He was born in Augusta, Feb. 9, 1902, the son of Fred Calvin and Ivah Smith Haskell.
He had been employed by Maine Central Railroad for 14 years and at Cony High School for 32 years, retiring in 1970. He served in the Maine National Gaurd for eight years and the U. S. Cavalry for three years. He was a member of Bethlehem Lodge, AF&AM, and the Green Street United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Walton Haskell of Augusta; a son, Maj. Paul F. Haskell of Arlington, Va.; a daughter, Jane E. Davis of Portland; three brothers, Chester Haskell of Randolph and Cecil Haskell and Ray Haskell, both of Augusta; four sisters, Florence Haskell and Evelyn Stonier, both of Topsham, Thelma Stebbins of Fairfield, conn., and Avis Haskell of Rohnert, Calif.; two grandsons; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
