  The Kansas City Star (MO) March 2, 1995 Ernest Eugene (Gene) Childress, 74, North Kansas City, Mo., passed away Tuesday, February 28, 1995, at North Kansas City Hospital. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 3, 1995, at First Presbyterian Church, 2125 Fayette, North Kansas City. The body was donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center. Memorial contributions to the Shriners Childrens Hospital. Mr. Childress was retired from a family owned corporation. He was a World War II veteran. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4050, past commander of the American Legion Post 61, member of the Ararat Shrine Temple, member of Mounted Guard, a member of the Masonic Lodge 31, a member of the Liberty Commandery 6, a member of Teamsters Local 41 and was past president of Democrats Unlimited Clay County. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Darlis Jean. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Martha Childress, of the home; one daughter, Margene Chil - dress, Kansas City; a brother, Gordon Childress, Mound City, Ks.; a sister, Venita Shurgrue, Kansas City; and several nieces and nephews.
