  Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram October 24, 2005 SOUTH PARIS- Richard Perley Haskell died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005 at a South Paris nursing home following a long illness. He was born Sept. 29, 1930 in Hollis Center, the son of Perley and Rose (Poulin) Haskell. Richard joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1948, making it a career of 33 years. He was with the lst Marine Division in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He also served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Richard trained recruits at Parris Island, and commanded prisoner of war camps. He established the first prisoner of war camp in Vietnam for the Marine Corps and ran it for eight months. Richard retired as Captain. After retirement he served as a service coordinator and jail inspector. He was also coordinator for Law Enforcement Assistance Agency Program Development. He was assistant director of the Bureau of Corrections for Maine. He served as administrator of the York County Jail and was also Director of Civil Emergency Preparedness. He was a member of the Masons and the Shriners. Richard cared for his lovely wife Aline who had multiple sclerosis for many years. She passed away in 2000. Richard will be greatly missed, he was our big brother and we always looked up to him. He loved his family and was a great brother.
