Stuart F. "Sid" Sidmore, 82, of Melrose, died November 13, 2004, at the Harborside Health Care in Wakefield.
Born in Salem, son of the late Austin R. and Marie D. (Peterson) Sidmore, Mr. Sidmore was raised and educated in Danvers, graduating from Danvers High School in 1940. He attended the Franklin Institute in Boston and then went on to serve his country in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.
Mr. Sidmore was a self-employed general contractor and owned Sidmore Construction for 27 years, retiring in 1985.
He was very active in the First Baptist Church in Melrose, where he served as past president of the Barry Class and was also the superintendent of the Sunday school. He was past chairman of the Boy Scout Committee and was a member of the Fidelity Lodge A.F. and A.M. of Melrose.
Mr. Sidmore enjoyed collecting pictures of covered bridges.
He was the husband of 61 years to Elizabeth M. "Betty" (Scarborough) Sidmore; father of Richard A. Sidmore, husband of Brenda, of Melrose and the late Stuart F. Sidmore Jr., husband of Janet, of New London, N.H.; brother of F. Merrill Sidmore of Virginia and M. Dorothea Eaton of North Carolina; grandfather of Suzanne, Steven, Richard, Christopher, Jeffrey and Daniel; and great-grandfather of nine.
His funeral service was held November 17 from the Robinson Funeral Home of Melrose. Interment was in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 561 Main St., Melrose, MA 02176.
