Thomas E. Haskell, 95, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 29, 2018 in the Rome Memorial Hospital Residential Health Care Facility.
He was born on May 2, 1922 in Whitesville, NY, a son of the late Ray and Mabel Smith Haskell. Tom graduated from Whitesville Central School and continued his education at Cornell University where he studied agriculture. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Tom received the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Purple Heart Medal. On September 20, 1958 in Madison, NY, he was united in marriage to the former Josephine "Jo" Bicknell. Tom retired from Griffiss Air Force Base in 1984 after many years of employment. He was a member of the Delta United Methodist Church where he also sang in the choir with his wife and son. Tom loved to be outside tending to his beautiful flower gardens and just puttering around the house. He also enjoyed line dancing with Jo.
Tom is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Jo; a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Gina Haskell of VA; two sisters, Gertrude Arrom and Ellie Miller, both of FL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Gregory Haskell, a sister Sally Sullivan, and a brother, Fay Haskell.
