She was the widow of Arthur W. Oberg, whom she married Aug. 28, 1937, in the First Lutheran Church, and who died Aug. 1, 1974.
She was born Sept. 4, 1910, in Jamestown, the daughter of Archie and Anna Nording Haskell.
She attended Jamestown High School, and in earlier years was employed by the former Richfield Oil Co., the former Malleable Iron, the former Jamestown Mutual Insurance Co., all of Jamestown, and later as a receptionist for the former Henderson-Lincoln Funeral Home.
She was a lifelong member of the First Lutheran Church, where she served the Sunday school for more than 60 years. She helped establish and was the first superintendent of the Extension Sunday school called Willard Chapel. She was a past president of the former Ladies Aide Society and was a circle leader for Lutheran Church Women. On June 11, 1993, she was a recipient of the Gordon C. and Mabel Moise Danielson Memorial Service Award in recognition of her faithful service to the church. She was a volunteer for the Lutheran Social Services for more than 40 years, where she served in various leadership positions.
In addition to her church work, she was involved in community service. She was a longtime member of the PTA, served on local and regional boards, was a crisis volunteer for the American Red Cross, served on the Busti election board, and was a member of the Busti Lakewood Senior Citizens.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by a son, Thomas W. Oberg of Monroe, N.C.; a daughter, Elaine L. Mattson of Huddleston, Va.; six grandchildren: Thomas Andrew Oberg Sr. of Spartanburg, S.C., Kimberly O. Eudy of Matthews, N.C., Kristin S. Mattson of Seattle, Kurt W. Mattson of Atlanta, and Karl E. and Keith A. Mattson, both of Charlottesville, Va.; and seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby I. Carlson, who died Aug. 7, 2002.
