He was born December 25, 1886 in Monticello, Maine, the son of Howard and Sadie (Gould) Atherton. Surviving are his wife, Elise (Haksell) Atherton, Boston; 2 daughters, Alice Atherton, Boston and Mrs. Ruth Donahue, Boston and one half brother, J. S. Kitchen, Houlton.
