  The Deseret News January 22, 2004 Bessie Rowena Carter Hatch, 80 yrs old, died January 20, 2004 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born October 18, 1923 in Santaquin, Utah to Cora Matilda Haskell and Willard Isaac Carter. She married Verlin Mitchell Hatch March 30, 1943 in Wyoming. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a temple worker in the Seattle and Portland Temples, and served in Primary and Relief Society. She loved music, loved to garden and lived a life of compassionate service. She is survived by her husband of 60 yrs, Verlin M. Hatch, children Karen Shaffer (Calif.) Verlin Anson Hatch (American Fork), Marilyn H. Lear (Stansbury Park), Joan Foulon (Tooele) and Gary Richard Hatch (Portland, Maine), 28 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her mother, father, two sisters, two brothers and a great-granddaughter.
