  Northeast Advance (Rockford, MI) October 15, 2007 Douglas Haskell, 49, of Courtland Township, died around 11 a.m. Oct. 8 after being run over by a riding lawn mower. According to the Kent County Sheriff's Department, Haskell and his wife were doing yard work for a friend at 10337 7 Mile Road NE. Haskell was operating a John Deere riding mower while his wife cleared walnuts from the yard. Haskell was paralyzed from the chest down, but was still able to operate the mower. Police say Haskell fell from the mower while it was moving in reverse and was momentarily caught beneath the mower deck. His head was struck by the blades, causing massive head trauma. Haskell's wife rendered assistance and phoned 911. Haskell was taken via Aeromed to Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. He died at 1:18 p.m.
