  Find-a-Grave OXFORD — Louis P. Fiore, 93, died peacefully Thursday, September 14, 2017, at home in Oxford. He was the husband of Dorothy (Haskell) Fiore. Louis was born June 29, 1924, in Ansonia, the son of the late Gondolfo and Michelina (Russo) Fiore. He joined the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed on the USS Block Island for a tour of duty. After the war, he graduated from UConn with a degree in civil engineering and in 1950 began his long career at the New Haven Water Company, now South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority. He retired in 1988 after 37 years of dedicated work, both in the office and on the field.He was known as a true gentleman and an excellent engineer. Louis was a faithful communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church of Oxford. His patience, kindness, willingness to help and love of fixing things for his extended family brought him great joy and endeared him to all. He was a true family man in every way. Besides his wife, he leaves his daughters, Ellen Schneider and her husband, Stephen, of Oxford, Mary Girard and her husband, Dennis, of North Eastham, Mass., and Anne Fiore of Longmont, Colo.; three grandchildren; his sister, Rose, of Ansonia, and his sister-in-law, Joan Fiore, of Derby. He was predeceased by his brothers, Michael, of Derby in 2008 and John of Oxford in 2015.
