  Southcoasttoday September 30, 2003 FREETOWN ~ Warren Clyde Pittsley, Sr. 84 of East Freetown died at home after a brief illness on Sunday September 28, 2003 surrounded by his family. He was the widower of Doris E. (Gallant) Pittsley. Born in Lakeville, the son of the late Horace and Edith (Haskell) Pittsley, he lived most of his life in Freetown. Mr. Pittsley was employed by New Bedford Thread Company for 40 years as a slasher tender. He also worked for Wamsutta Mlls. After his retiirement, he drove a bus for the elderly, GATRA Dial-a-Ride in Taunton, for 15 years and was very proud of being able to do this. He was a World War II Army veteran and served with the 102nd General Hospital. He attended the MD Medical Tech School and was highly decorated. He was a recipient of the European Africian Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Medal with qualifications of marksman with an M1 rifle. He held the rank of technician fifth grade. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Freetown Post and Greater Dartmouth Senior Center. He was a charter member of the Wampanoag chapter of NAFCA, with which he traveled extensively. He graduated from New Bedford High School, class of 1938. He was an avid student and scholar of the Civil War. In his leisure time, he enjoyed camping and spending time with his family and grandchildren. His greatest achievement was his love of family. Survivors include three sons, Warren C. Pittsley, Jr. and wife Mary, of Swansea, Leonard J. Pittsley and his wife, Kathy of Taunton and Michael C. Pittsley and his wife, Juli, of Freetown; a daughter, Sharon Montgomery of South Carolina; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister, Eva Brownell of Freetown; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Horace and Robert Pittsley.
