New Bedford - Robert Walter Pittsley, 77, of New Bedford, died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Irene (Swiatlowska) Pittsley.
Born in Berkley, the son of Horace and Edith (Haskell) Pittsley, he lived in New Bedford since 1927.
Mr. Pittsley was a loom fixer at Berkshire-Hathaway for 29 years until retiring. He was a World War II veteran and served in Japan. He held the rank pf seaman first class and served aboard the USS Cabana. He was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Medal and Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal with six stars.
Survivors include his widow; a daughter, Cheryl Payden and her husband, Bryant, of Manassas, Va.; two grandchildren, Renee Forand and Raymond Forand, both of Virginia; a brother, Warren Pittsley of Freetown, a sister, Eva Brownell of Freetown; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Horace Pittsley Jr.
Internment at Pine Grove Cemetery.
