MIDDLETOWN - William Howell Pharmakis, 83, of 18 Shangri La Lane, Middletown, RI, died Thursday, July 13, 2006 at Grand Islander Health Care Center, Middletown, RI.
He was the husband of Audrey (Hebert) Pharmakis.
Born in Attleboro, MA, on May 5, 1923, he was the son of the late John and Clara (Haskell) Pharmakis.
Mr. Pharmakis was a distinguished serviceman, and received the Purple Heart during his service in the United States Navy, in World War II and the Korean Conflict, retiring after 20 years of service as a Hospitalman Chief.
He was a member of St. Georges Church, the Fleet Reserve Branch #19, and the National Philatelic Society. Mr. Pharmakis also worked as a pharmecutical rep. for Brunswig Drug in Las Vegas, NV for 15 years. He was an avid stamp and coin collector and a war historian, particularly ancient civilization.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his son Charles Herbert Pharmakis of Middletown, RI; his brother Donald Pharmakis of Las Vegas, NV, his sisters Rose Heon of Florida, and Cora Douglas of Cape Cod, MA; and his grandchildren Allison Pharmakis, Evan Pharmakis and Hilary Pharmakis.
He was the brother of the late Dr. Thomas Pharmakis, Andrew Pharmakis, John Pharmakis, George Pharmakis, Arthur Pharmakis, Helen Pharmakis and Marian Filibert and Irene.
