- Lillian M. Haskell Obituary
Lillian M. Haskell née Casey was one day shy of her 100th birthday when she passed peacefully on April 25th, 2026, at her home in Andover, MA surrounded by family.
Lil, as she was affectionately known to all, was born on April 26th, 1926, to Mary Strassel and James Casey in Chelsea, MA. She was the youngest of five children, predeceased by her siblings Rose (Bill) Ryan, Joseph (Claire) Casey, James (Ada) Casey, Marie (Johnny) Carroll.
Lil and her beloved William E. Haskell Jr. married on September 9th, 1950, in Chelsea, MA. Lil was a wonderful baker, so she decided to make her own wedding cake. She wrote to Betty Crocker for advice and received a detailed response signed by Betty Crocker. She made both a traditional multilayer wedding cake as well as the Groom's fruitcake. William Jr. passed on March 12th, 1984.
Lillian moved to Andover in the early 1950's when her husband accepted a teaching position at Merrimack College in the Department of Civil Engineering. She was a devoted wife and mother who raised her family in Andover where she met many lifelong friends including Ruth Ann and the bridge club.
She was a devote Catholic and member of Saint Augustine Church in Andover. Lil depended on her faith to accept the challenges life put in her path.
Lil had many careers throughout her life. As a young woman she worked as a telephone operator in Chelsea. After raising her children, she was a lunch-time supervisor of the Bancroft and Doherty Elementary Schools in Andover for many years. She also worked at McDonalds in Andover as a greeter. With her beautiful head of silver hair, she was called "Grandma McDonald" by many.
She loved doing creative projects with her hands, so she volunteered to staff the arts and crafts cart at Lawrence General Hospital. She was also able to utilize those skills when working for Lucille at Creations Unlimited, one of her favorite jobs!
Lil was an avid movie goer, as was her husband, they even went to the movies on their wedding day! She combined her love of movies and her love of socializing with people when she got a job as a ticket taker at the Lawrence Showcase Cinema. She was an animal lover, having had many dogs and cats through her life. She was a true advocate of the MSPCA, having adopted dogs from the Methuen facility.
Lillian lived at The Andover Commons and then Atria Marland Place where she met many dear friends. During the pandemic she moved back into her marital home with her daughter Beth and her son-in-law Jeff.
Lil is survived by her son William E. Haskell III, and his wife Marcia (Crowley) of Andover, and her daughter Beth Casey Haskell, and her husband Jeff Raymond. Lillian was predeceased by her daughter Mary Francis.
Grammy cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren Brandy Cruwys (daughter Giselle), Bridget Cruwys, and Brenden Cruwys, his wife Jaime (daughter Monica), and her many grand-dogs and grand-cats. Aunt Lilly had close relationships with many of her nieces, great-nieces, nephews, and great-nephews.
