  Obituary ATHOL Ruby M. (Reed) Smith, 88, of Hospital Hill, Gardner, formerly of 416 Main St., died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005, at the Wachusett Manor Nursing Home in Gardner. She was born Dec. 16, 1916 in Somerville, MA, the daughter of Raymond E. and Winnie (Haskell) Reed. As a young girl, she lived in Cambridge and moved to Athol with her family in her senior year, graduating from Athol High School in 1934. As an only child, she enjoyed summers with her grandparents in the China Lakes Region in Maine and would fondly reminisce of times spent there. Ruby was married to Arthur E. Smith of Athol for 48 years, until his death in 1984. They brought up their family in Athol where they lived until retiring to Maine in 1970. Ruby returned to the Athol area in 2005. She was affiliated with the Order of Eastern Star and the Athol-Orange Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed cooking for her family, knitting, crocheting, gardening and doing crossword puzzles with her dear friend, Ruth Fuller. She leaves three sons; Edward A. Smith and his wife, Linda, Harry Smith and his wife, Sharon, of Orange, and Raymond E. Smith and his wife, Linda, of Wellington, FL; seven grandchildren, Daniel Smith and Rebecca Badgley of Orange, Tracy Miller of Westminster, Tricia Jarry of Edgewater, FL, Sheila Johnston of Chicopee, Coleen Golden of Broadbrook, CT and Craig Smith of Northfield; 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
