  Waterville Morning Sentinel UNITY - First Sergeant Michael D. Jones, 43, died Thursday, March 3, 2005 at University Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y., following a brief illness. Michael was born March 11, 1961, in Augusta the son of Paul W and Margaret (Haskell) Jones. He was a graduate of Mount View High School in Thorndike, Class of 1979. Michael joined the Maine Army National Guard in June of 1978. His military career became very important to him. Throughout his career he earned many awards including the Bronze Star for his outstanding performance and leadership while serving with the 133rd Engineer Battalion A Company in Iraq. Michael married Lori (Ferreira) Jones July 12, 1980, and shared 24 years of marriage. Michael was employed by NRF Distributors in Augusta. Michael has three children, Amy, Adam, and Alissa whom meant everything to him. On Dec. 17, 2001, his granddaughter, Kaylee, was born and she became his pride and joy. Michael loved to spend time with his family and friends, hunting with his son, brothers and nephews, going to the stock car races and cutting wood with his brother-in-law. Michael was predeceased by his father, Paul W. Jones. Surviving Michael are his wife of 24 years, Lori; his daughter, Amy Corson and husband, Michael; son, Adam; and daughter, Alissa, all of Unity; his granddaughter, Kaylee Corson of Unity; his mother, Margaret Jones of Unity; brothers, Paul B. and his wife, Diane, of Knox, Allen and his wife, Alice, Dennis and his wife, Cindy, all of Unity; sisters, Melanie Waterman and her husband, Blake, of Burnham, Valarie Tweedie and husband, Barry, of Thorndike; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Robert and Carol Ferreira of Unity; brother-in-law, Timothy Ferreira and wife, Suzanne, of Unity; and nieces and nephews, Craig, Angela, Chris, Michelle, Keith, Casey, Dereck, Elaine. Blake, Katie, Bryan, Nicholas, Mackenzie, and Marissa; and special friends, Carl Sticht, Dean Preston and Keith Pert and several aunts, uncles and cousins; and his extended family throughout the 133rd Engineer Battalion A Company.
