Joel Brent Smith, son of Scott and LaRae K. Smith was born Nov. 8, 1951 in thr Greybull hospital. Sisters Lynda and Nancy and brother Robert were already in the family home where he was welcomed with love and joy.
Joel grew up on the family ranch in the Shell Creek and attebed grades one through twelve in the Greybull schools, graduating in the spring of 1971. After attending N.W.C.C. in Powell for a short time he served in the Mexico North mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from 1971 through 1973. After returning fom his mission he once again helped with the ranching operation.
Joel married Robyn Sue Sessions in the Provo Temple on Dec. 12, 1974. They lived on the ranch about a yeara and a half before moving to Lovell where Joel worked for Jay Welch Construction, Nicholls and Lewis Marathon Oil where he was employed at the time of his death.
Joel and Robyn have a daughter, Jaime and a son Patrick, who with their mom Robyn, supported Joel in all the thingsthat filled his life with joy and service. He has had many callings in the Church serving as Bishop and most recently in the Stake Mission Presidency. He also was currently serving on the school board.
The great love of his life was his family, church, friends, hunting, the mountains and basketball. He also loved to help others, was aware of their needs and would do whatever it took to fill those needs. At bthe time of his death he had just played two games of scrimmage with hid friends. Joel would say "What a way to go!"
Joel is survived by his wife Robyn, his daughter, Jaime Rae, future son-in-law, Euben Luna, and his son Patrick Joel. Also brothers, Robert of Seattle Wa., Michael of Greybull, Lynda (Pyrah) of Carey, Id., Nancy (Jensen) of Springfield, Mo., Janet (Mollenbrink) og Greybull. Donna Bassett of Worland and Sharon Miller of Farmington, Mn.
