  The Daily Tribune February 27, 2007 Theodore James Haskell, former director of parks and recreation for the City of Lansing and a professor of park and recreation resources at Michigan State University, died quietly on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007. He was born Oct. 11, 1926, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Ted and Grace Haskell. Mr. Haskell grew up in Royal Oak and after serving in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in 1944-45 enrolled at MSU, obtaining a bachelor of arts degree and a master's in the field of forestry. He became chief city forester in 1959 and director of parks and recreation in 1972. He joined the faculty at MSU from 1976-84. Mr. Haskell participated in planning and construction of Lansing's Riverfront Park and organized and directed the Dutch Elm Disease Control Program. He thrived on what life offered and was an avid reader, computer enthusiast, square dance caller and dancer, bagpiper, golfer, loving husband, father and grandfather. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Bible Haskell; daughter, Judith (William) Gearing of Roanoke, Va.; son, Bruce (Laurie) Haskell of Charlotte, Mich.; daughter, Rebecca (William) Potts; brother, the Rev.
