Calvin James Nelson, 88, of Idaho Falls, died Nov. 2, 2003, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
He was born June 11, 1915, in Sublett, Idaho, to Ephriam and Madia Haskell Nelson, the oldest of eight children. He attended school in Sublett, Malta and Cache Valley.
On Nov. 20, 1941, he married Genevieve E. Anderson in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. He was a farmer in Sublett and a longtime farmer in Paul, Idaho.
As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many positions, including two full-time missions: one to the North Central States, and later with his wife to Fresno, Calif. He also served three stake missions and was a temple worker in the Boise and Idaho Falls temples.
His hobbies were his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Genevieve Nelson of Idaho Falls; his children, Judy (Don) Aiken of Idaho Falls, Donna (Curt) Maughan of Mesa, Ariz., Kent Nelson of Wasilla, Alaska, and Rita (Mike) Schofield and Beth (Wayne) Campbell, both of Idaho Falls; three sisters, Rosa Taylor of Glendale, Ariz., Elaine Page of Tucson, Ariz., and Ruby Parish of Burley, Idaho; 35 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister, and a grandson, Nathan Schofield.
