Richard K. Torrey, 73, of Shinnston, W.Va., and formerly of this town, died Sunday at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.
He was a retired real estate agent and a longtime employee of S & S Paint & Wallpaper Co. of Springfield. He retired in 1994. Born in Springfield, he lived here for 40 years, and moved to West Virginia two years ago. He was a World War II Army veteran, and attended the First Baptist Church of Shinnston. He belonged to the American Legion Post and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3236 here, and the Ludlow Hockey Association. He coached youth hockey and baseball for many years.
He leaves his wife, Gwendolyn C. (Wyman) Torrey; two sons, Richard K. Jr. of Woodstock, Vt., and Ronald D. of Barnard, Vt.; a daughter, Sandra Longsworth of Otis; three stepsons, Greg Cowan and Stephen Cowan of Morgantown, and Michael Cowan of Cary, N.C.; three stepdaughters, Valarie Cowan of Silver Spring, Md., Donna Marcelo of Weaversville, N.C., and Kathy Moore of Holly, Mich.; three grandchildren; a great-grandson, and nine step-grandchildren. His first wife, the former Betty Cray, died in 1989.
