Ardath Avery Brewer passed away peacefully at Orchards Rehab and Care Center on Nov. 10, 2007. He was born March 17, 1924, in Winegar, Wis., to Avery and Hazel (Davis) Brewer. At a young age he and his parents traveled by car to the Northwest. He graduated from Clarkston High School in 1942.
He proudly served with the Marine Corps in the Pacific during World War II. He served from 1942 to 1946 being involved with the first invasion of Guadalcanal and later on Midway.
He worked at the lumber mill in O'Mill (outside Orofino) as the head sawyer.
Sept. 1, 1956, he married Linda J. Conard.
They built their home out of handpicked lumber. After the mill closure at O'Mill he moved his family closer to Orofino on Grangemont Road. He went to work for Konkol's Lumber Mill at Orofino. He also worked at Brandt's cedar mill. After retirement form the lumber industry he did seasonal work for the forest service at Canyon Ranger station. He then worked for CPTPA at Boehl's Cabin as the maintenance man.
He had a lifelong love of country music and played guitar, mandolin, coronet and various other instruments. He was called upon to play taps for many military services in the area. He enjoyed the outdoors with hunting, fishing and camping. He and our Mom enjoyed dancing and roller skating. They loved going to yard sales and enjoyed visiting with their many friends and family. During his young adult life he learned how to fly planes and really enjoyed this hobby. He filled his life with good friends, family and many great adventures.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Avery Brewer and Hazel (Davis) Brewer. He had a younger sister, Betty Winona Brewer, who passed away at a young age.
His survivors include: one daughter, Sarah L. (Lorrie) Nelson and husband Larry of Lewiston four sons, Dennis A. Brewer of Kamiah, Kelly L. Brewer and wife Edna of Orofino, Jacob E. Brewer and wife Mary of Kellogg, Idaho and Avery Brewer Jr. and wife Georgina of La Habra, Calif. 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A big thank you goes to Guardian Angel Homes for the time he lived there. Also many thanks to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, Tri-State Memorial Hospital in Clarkston and Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane for the exceptional care and compassion he received. Thank you to Orchards Rehab and Care Center for taking care of him during his last months.
We will miss him so very much, but know that he and Mom are dancing and roller skating in heaven as we speak. "Laugh and enjoy every minute" and "Do not know a stranger."
